The basic Idea

We're developing and produce a simple electronically device – a power plug switch - which can be controlled over existing GSM-Network trough short messages. The idea itself is nothing new – just the way it will be controlled.

The main and very simple functions of the device:

We had a lot of very interesting ideas concerning the functions of the device – but we want to keep it very simple so the marked to sell it is very big. It can be used at home (consumer market)  to control any device – it can also be used in corporate field for high professional use.

Characteristics of the Device

• Very simple design – look like a normally power plug switch with only one exchangeable plug

• Small device / low weight (about 5x10x20 cm)

• Integrated GSM-Module for all interesting GSM-Bands (900/1800/1900)

• Very simple to use, cause fully controlled through SMS

• Secure: There can be defined a password

• Normal exchangeable Power plug so it can be used in many different countries (for example like Motorola Handy AC-Adaptors)

The way how to control the device

As already wrote, there should be only one way to control the device – by sending an SMS to it. The customer simply buys an prepaid GSM SIM-Card and insert it. First thing he has to do now is define a password by send (for example) the following text:

• PW [old password] [new password] [new password]

He will receive a confirmation by SMS. 

Power ON Mode:

The Customer has to send the following to the device (for example):

• ON NOW [password] or

• ON [mintues] [password] for a delayed turn on

Power OFF Mode:

The Customer has to send the following to the device (for example):

• OFF NOW [password] or

• OFF [mintues] [password] for a delayed turn on

Power REBOOT Mode:

The Customer has to send the following to the device (for example):

• REBOOT NOW [password] or

• REBOOT [mintues] [password] for a delayed turn on

For each of those commands, the customer will receive an SMS as confirmation (if he wants).

Other commands:

• CONFIRMATION [on / off]

Turn on / off receiving confirmation SMS (in case of an prepaid GSM-Card).

Target Market of the Device / Pricing 

The main goal is to sell the device to the consumer as also the corporate marked. As we know for now, there is a big interesting in both marked cause there is no such a device on the mark in Europe today. 

Some examples:

• There is a big WISP (Wireless Internet Service Provider) here in Europe that is interested in such a device to reboot their Cisco Routers

• There is a big electronic device seller in Europe that is interested to have such a product in their assortment

Very important: The End-user price of the device should no be high than US $ 120.-.

Design Draft Consumer Version

This is a very first draft of the “GSM-Loader”. Just one power plug to plug whatever in and two LED’s for current status. Measurement: 10 x 20 cm (or shorter).
